FUTURE TENSES - There are three main ways of expressing the future :

The Present Continuous

The Present continuous : to express an intentional action in the near future. An expression of time ( next week, on Thursday, tomorrow, ...) is necessary :

ex: I am playing tennis in the lycee tomorrow morning.
We are leaving home tomorrow

Immediate Future

The " going to " form , or "immediate future" describes:
1.a future intention

ex: Rim is going to learn English in Bou Saada via internet.

2.plans that have already been arranged .

ex: we are going to play tennis on Monday.

3.something that is inevitable ( according to the narrator )

ex: it's going to rain .

Note the use of "was/were going to" for a past intention, a plan which has been changed:

ex: I was going to do my homework in the garden but it started to rain

EXC: with the verbs "to go" and "to come" we simply use going to in Present Continuous

ex: we are going to the cinema (instead of "we are going to go to the cinema")

Simple Future

The " simple future " with will/shall + verb infinitive without TO
aff: I/we shall go home You/he/she/it/they will answer us
neg: She will not/won't come We shall not/shan't be home
int: Will you come with me? Shall we go to the cinema? in the following situations

to express:
1. a spontaneous and immediate reaction
ex: -It's warm in here
-You're right , I'll open the window

2. to express ideas of doubt, expectation and hope (with verbs "think, believe, doubt, hope, expect" and adverbs "perhaps, maybe, probably")
ex: I hope we will finish on time
- Did Fatima phone yesterday ?
- No. Maybe she'll phone tomorrow.

3. In a general sense
ex: Will the shops be open on Friday ?
Nesrin will be sixteen next month

The future simple cannot be used immediately after time conjunctions such as:
- After
- As soon as
- Before
- Until
- When
- Next time
- By the time

We have to replace it by a present but the future simple is used in the other half of the sentence. Pay attention to the sentence order.
e.g:as soon as Ali arrives, he will need a cup of tea

Don't confuse "when" as a conjunction (no future) with the interrogative word "when? " ( future is possible )
When will you know the results of the test ?
When I am pass my BAC, I will go to Ferhat Abbes University in Setif.

I am meeting my father at the airport tomorrow.
المستقبل القريب
مثال أنا ذاهب لالاقي والدي
Iam going to meey my father.
المستقبل العادي
مثال س/ سوف التقي والدي غدا
I shall/will meet my father tomorrow.
